Brand Architecture · Naming
A name worth owning.
A heritage leather workshop, in business since 1928, needed a name it could actually own — legally and culturally.
A maker with nearly a century of craft behind it was stepping into a new chapter and needed a name to carry it. The hard part is never the poetry — it is finding something distinctive that survives the trademark and domain gauntlet, which is where most beautiful names quietly die.
What we did
We ran naming and clearance as one discipline rather than two. Candidates were tested against the legal and digital reality early, so we never let the client fall for a name that couldn’t be cleared. The winner — Vestigia, ‘traces’ — honoured the heritage while pointing forward, and it cleared.
The names that couldn’t clear were eliminated quietly and never discussed again. The discipline is in the elimination.
The result
The maker got a name that is distinctive, ownable and defensible — trademark and domain secured — carrying its heritage into a new era without legal compromise or a thousand near-identical competitors.
Poetry that holds up legally is the only poetry worth presenting.
